I know this is off subject, but you said the graphics would be good with a less than good frame rate. How can I tell the framerate that I am currently running on BF1942?

when would my pc be considered high end then?? lol fx6800 with a 3 gig pentium 4 and a gig of ram and a raptor hard drive?? lol I think this'll be as close as I'll get for at least another couple of months. I'm very satisfied tho. Well, actually, I'll find that out when I use the computer, lol. I just had to send the defective motherboard back to Newegg.com That's a good site tho. they had no problem with giving me a brand new mobo

along with lower performance, do you think my system might get a bit warm running doom 3? I have a 400 watt psu, and I'm definitely thinking about getting a fan controller. I am just a bit sketchy about OCing. my motherboard DOES have easy settings in BIOS tho... Im sure you highly suggest that I OC my cpu and get a better heatsink, correct?

As BF1942 is much less demanding, far less computationally intensive/future proof, and it's engine isn't nearly as advanced as DOOM 3's, BF1942 is not a good reference. Something like 3DMark03(Google that) as a synthetic benchmark or something else would be a good reference.

A high end system by today's standards would be considered the following specifications:

Pentium 4E E.E(Extreme Edition) 3.4 GHz or Athlon 64 FX-53 2.4 GHz
1GB of RAM + (dual-channel PC3200 DDR400)
256MB-512MB G-DDR 3 Radeon X800 XT P.E(Platinum Edition) or 256MB-512MB G-DDR 3 GeForce 6800 Ultra E.E(Extreme Edition)

Yes, very expensive, it'll roughly cost $3000 USD and above. :razz:

heh.....just telling you that I have a 400 watt power supply doesnt tell u too much...I also have 2 LED case fans, and blue lights down the front of my case and another light on the front. you know the rest of my hardware...lol. I'm just worried about overheating if I do overclock, and also whether I have enough OOmph in my psu.

With balanced settings and updated drivers, with your current specifications, I doubt there's a need to overclock for DOOM 3, as that could easily worsen performance when it could easily boost performance(slightly, as pixel rendering / geometery vertex pipelines have become a HUGE perfomance factor when measuring performance out of video cards lately).

so...I shouldnt overclock...you say it could worsen, but could easily boost performance. Do you mean that leaving it alone would boost performance? and even if I'm not overclocking, is a fan controller a good thing to buy? THe one I have found has 4 channel support and is under 20.00

I shouldnt even overclock the cpu? that would make things worse too?? I dont know 100% of the downsides about OCing other than over heat and the risk of destroying ur parts.

hey guys, I'm back. I forgot to ask. What is the difference between a geforce fx 5700 and a geforcefx 5700 ultra? other than 30.00?

is it worth spending the extra 30? will there be that much of a difference?

Also, are dual fans on a video card better than just one fan? cuz I found a geforcefx 5700 that has dual fans. the 5700 ultra only has one

oops! I forgot another thing. I'm so sorry for all the messages. What is more important in a video card? the ram? or the bit? Cuz the 5700 I found has 256 mb ddr and 128 bit, whereas most 5700 ultra have 128 gddr or some other weird ddr with 128 bit. What is gddr? is that compatible with my pc that uses ddr ram??

the difference is, 139.00 for an fx5700 with dual fans, 256 mb ddr and 128 bit, or 188.00 for fx 5700 ultra with 3 fans, one just in case of overheat, 128 mb GDDR III (Idk wtf that is , and if I can use it) and 128 bit

is it worth the 50.00??

No to be honest I couldn't be bothered to even read what you were saying as I saw they were spread over far too many posts.

I should warn you - people who post too much just for lame reasons like trying to increase their rank suffer in the long run for it. Just ask SOWL3DFPS - he found his rank rather more interesting then what he was expecting it to be for ranking up.
