So California got rid our congress's representative's ability to re draw the districts every year.

When the Congress representatives re draw the districts every year they make it so that they can be elected every year. It's called Gerrymandering.

Yes it seems like a great idea. Everybody state should do it. But other states aren't, and California is a state that is 42% to 58% in favor of the democrats. This is going to wear away that slim percentage.

Now you're probably asking, Why do I give a shit about California. It's because Californa has 55 electoral votes out of 538 votes almost 1 in 10 votes is from California. It's is literally the anchoring state that keeps the democrats in any sort of power.

Now there is a bunch of people who I don't know if I can trust that are drawing up lines. They are going to claim to be fair, but it going to be abused. The other states aren't changing their laws any time soon. It's fucked. it's all fucked!

I voted against this! Because I would rather the districts be drawn up by some sort of equation or program. Not by a bunch of assholes.

We're not going to see shit this election. Nooooo this is going to take time. This is going to fuck over a lot of shit in the coming years.

California is barely blue, it's true. But so long as all the major population centers get drawn correctly, it can really only benefit us.

I do think this redistricting thing is bullshit. A panel of two democrats, two republicans and one "independent," regardless of how the state is actually represented. But short of Republicans totally dominating the entire thing, I don't think you can re-draw the lines such that Republicans will unjustly win. Even though the population is not that blue, the state is usually carried pretty easily.

Red populations either exist out in the boondocks like the Mojave or scattered among blue-leaning populations (like LA and now even Orange County).

So let's not panic just yet. Although yeah, if we were to get Gerrymandered red, this country would be in serious trouble.

It is easy to redraw the lines to make it red. You get a nice percentage of Cities to be Blue. Than you lump the outer areas of the cities into rural red zones and so those old blues areas become red and boom. 55 electoral votes and growing served on silver platter until 99.9 percent of the population is living in urban areas which won't be for decades.

On the other hand! Hey Maybe it will be great. Maybe California will become a battle ground state and billion of ad dollars and time will go into our states and suck it dry from the rest of the country. Maybe we will actually matter in an election. Maybe I'll get to run around with a sign to to go against the old fucker in some meaningless and fading culture war debate about abortion, gun control or fucking raceism.

Our country is big enough of a joke as it is. If California somehow becomes a swing state, then there's just that much less of a chance that we'll ever be sane again.

I can see this law making things better as long as the whole country does it, and there are tons of regulations involved. But the time it will take to get there is going to put me in the grave.

Wanna move to another country? I'm considering Australia because the weather seems similar to Southern California. Or maybe Sweden. Or are we too poisoned to actually be able to enjoy good things.

Crime is falling because over a million people are in prison. And it's only really falling if you don't count what goes on in prison as being a crime.

If you consider rape, theft, assault, murder and all that stuff crime, then there's more crime in prison than there is outside of it. And if you combine that with crime outside of jail, then there's more crime in this country than practically its entire history. Hell, perhaps even the history of the planet.

And it's facts like that make me just want to give up. Moving somewhere Scandinavian, other than the weather, sounds like a good option to me.

I'm an optimistic person though, and I always hope that it'll get better. Things are gonna get bad over the next few years I think. I'm gonna stock up on guns, ammo, tools, etc. You know, in case of rioting and whatnot.

Despite all this, there's still nowhere I'd rather be. Even with all its faults, this place is home.

I think both sides of the political spectrum (even though there are plenty of gray areas in between the spectrum) are retarded and don't have our interests at heart. That's the problem. Not Democrats or Republicans being in power; that's just used to keep us divided, I think.

Politics is something I've become less and less interested in talking about because things have just gotten so corrupt it hardly matters. The only hing fun to talk about really is how fucking retarded Republican are and how badly the Democrats will compromise to them without actually being them.

But real questions? Like socialized medicine or what do do about the wars or the deficit or the one trillion dollars in student loan debt or the over one million people in prison or how ridiculously bad the environment is getting or how shitty the recession is, etc. etc. etc., all those questions have either already been decided (as in, it doesn't matter what people think, some bureaucrat/corporate fuckhead has more influence than you) or they won't be dealt with because politicians don't fucking care.

Combine that with the growing surveillance state and corporatism and the whole thing is essentially fucking broken. That's not to say nothing can be done, but the major stuff sucks so bad it doesn't fucking matter really.

Oh hurray, Don't Ask, Don't Tell got repealed, except now we're going to invade Iran and bail out the banks again for something they fucked up. Oh, and it doesn't matter what you think because a majority in the legislature, judiciary and the executive either doesn't care about you or is bought out. Enjoy the 2012 election.

What's worse is the same is happening in Europe too. We're marching right back towards a politics of the Gilded Age, where industrial aristocracies own everything and nothing works like it's supposed to as a result.

The healthcare thing. We have one. That is an improvement. And if it is gotten rid of, it will be gotten rid of by the elderly who are literally killing themselves off. That irony make me fucking happy because it's like shitheads shooting themselves and eventually healthcare will come back because all the young kids simply have it, and it pisses people off to lose anything.

I think this whole era is one grab for power by the boomer who have it and are losing it.

There will not be a riot. It will be this gradual decay where everybody is soft and mushy and voting for things that hurt them. They will have $200 dollars in their saving account, and a majority of their pay check will go to rent and food and everybody who will be waiting for the general riot will end up accidentally shooting themselves, or their kids will shoot each other because the kids won't know the difference between reality, and fantasy and the family goes in debt for the rest of their lives because they have to pay for the funeral. And than cancer kills the family.

Anyway, it's all just preparation, Jon. If the economy doesn't get better, hell, if it gets worse, people will get desperate. Besides, I live near St. Louis and East St. Louis (15 minutes away in fact) - they're both shitholes, in fact East St. Louis is one of the murder capitals of the US. I don't want that spilling over here, so all I'm doing is preparing for any eventuality.
